What is scalp micropigmentation?

Scalp micropigmentation (SMP), also known as "hair tattooing," is a revolutionary non-surgical cosmetic treatment that implants pigment into the scalp using specialized microneedles. The scalp micropigmentation process replicates the appearance of natural hair follicles, creating the appearance of thicker hair.

This type of "tattoo" is semi-permanent and will not harm existing hair follicles.

Suitable for both men and women, scalp micropigmentation effectively addresses male pattern baldness, alopecia, scarring, receding hairlines and thinning hair in both men and women. This versatile treatment offers a realistic solution for a variety of hair loss conditions without causing additional hair loss!

Frequently Asked Questions

Scalp micropigmentation is a semi-permanent treatment that can last 10+ years with proper care. However, over time, as your skin naturally removes its layers and absorbs the pigment, the treatment will fade and require adjustments. Everyone's scalp is unique and factors such as sun exposure and dry or oily skin type can cause this to happen at an accelerated rate. The average person will require adjustments every 2-5 years to freshen up the color. Panova SMP offers a 12-month treatment guarantee to cover any fading or hairline changes, etc. requiring correction within the first year of your treatment. Retouches are one session and will cover any areas that need blending to ensure your scalp micropigmentation treatment stays even and fresh looking.

Pricing for scalp micropigmentation, also known as a "hair tattoo," is determined by the type of hair loss treatment and the size of the area to be covered. On average, clients can expect treatment costs ranging from £1,000. To add density or create a full hairline.

We base our pricing on the Norwood Scale, the international standard for determining the severity of hair loss. We provide confidential, free and no-obligation consultations which can be done by submitting your photos online or requesting phone and in-person appointments.

Each scalp micropigmentation procedure is performed within 2-5 sessions. This is to ensure that we gradually build and blend the tattoo, adjust the density and color of the ink to create the most natural hair growth results. Sessions usually last between 2-4 hours depending on the area we need to cover.

Most of our clients complete their full treatment within 2-6 weeks depending on the type of treatment. Our general treatment schedule is 7-14 days between treatments and 1+ month between your previous session and your last follow-up session.

We leave longer before your last session as your skin regenerates every 28 days and always adjust your hair tattoo based on healed results. This method guarantees our clients the most natural looking long term healed results. Our experts will give you advice based on your skin type.

Scalp micropigmentation (SMP), often referred to as a hair tattoo, is a semi-permanent solution for thinning hair. It involves applying tiny dots of pigment to the scalp, mimicking the look of shaved hair and creating the illusion of thicker hair follicles and natural hair growth. The effects of SMP typically last 4 to 6 years, with some fading with time. Retouching sessions help maintain the desired look.

While scalp micropigmentation (SMP) offers a realistic, long-lasting solution to hair loss, it does not stimulate new hair growth or replace lost hair follicles, providing the permanent appearance of a fuller, shaved hairstyle.

Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is generally safe and has minimal side effects. Common side effects include mild redness, itching, and swelling at the treatment site, which usually subside within a few days.

Ensuring that the procedure is performed by a certified professional minimizes these risks. While scalp micropigmentation (SMP) effectively creates the appearance of thicker hair and shaved hair, it does not affect natural hair growth or hair follicles directly.

In general, the side effects of scalp micropigmentation are usually minor and temporary.

Our method ensures that after the process is complete, it will look just like real hair follicles growing out of the scalp!

Each client's natural hair follicle size and root color are coordinated during SMP treatment. We use multiple needle sizes and custom color shades to match tattooed follicles to your own. Our technique ensures a natural and undetectable result.

We also take into consideration the age of the client and their pattern of hair loss to blend into the area of hair that allows for any future hair loss that may occur.

If customers need to experience further hair loss, we can simply blend the area with the existing SMP.

Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) and hair transplantation address hair loss differently.

SMP is a non-surgical, minimally invasive procedure that uses tiny dots of pigment to mimic shaved hair, creating the illusion of thicker hair and natural hair growth. It provides immediate results and requires minimal downtime.
In contrast, a hair transplant involves surgically moving hair follicles from one part of the scalp to another, encouraging natural hair growth. This method can be more invasive, with a longer recovery time and potential complications.

Although SMP offers a realistic look of thicker hair, it does not stimulate hair growth. Hair transplants can restore actual hair growth, but may not be right for everyone due to cost, recovery time, and varying results. The choice between SMP and hair transplant depends on individual needs and preferences.

Most customers describe the pain as 2 to 5 out of 10, with the sensation being more of an annoying itch rather than feeling pain. The front temples, hairline and sides of the head tend to be the most painful due to nerve endings in these areas. We offer numbing cream for clients with very low tolerance to pain.
